Our story

Since 2019 we have helped organisations design, build, and operate the systems their businesses run on — from cloud infrastructure and custom software to large-scale media platforms serving users around the world. What started as an independent consultancy has stayed deliberately independent: no reseller agreements, no vendor kickbacks, no pressure to recommend anything but what fits.

We operate substantial production infrastructure of our own. That matters more than any certification: every recommendation we make is one we would — and usually do — run ourselves, with our own uptime on the line. When we advise on backups, it’s because we test restores. When we harden a system, it’s against attacks we’ve actually seen and handled.

About the founder

Cole Consulting is led by Jim Cole, whose career in IT began in 1987. Before founding the practice he spent decades designing, building, and running enterprise systems for Fortune 500 companies — through the eras of mainframes, client-server, virtualisation, and cloud. Few consultants have operated production systems across that entire arc, and it shows in how we work: technology generations change, but the disciplines of reliability, security, and operational rigour do not.

In 2019 he branched out on his own to bring that enterprise-grade discipline to organisations of every size — without the enterprise overhead. Clients get the judgement that only comes from having seen four decades of technology succeed and fail, applied directly to their systems by the person they hired.

How we work

Engagements start with listening, not selling. We scope the work in plain language, agree on what “done” means, and report progress in terms you can verify. You always know who is doing your work — because it’s the same person you scoped it with.

• Honest scoping — if a €500 fix solves it, we won’t sell you a €50,000 project.
• Verified delivery — work is demonstrated running, not declared finished.
• Knowledge transfer — documentation and handover are part of the job, not an extra.
• Long-term thinking — we build systems we’d be happy to still maintain in five years.

Cole Consulting VOF is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. The practice was founded in 2019 and originally incorporated as Cole Consulting B.V.; it has continued its activities as Cole Consulting VOF since December 2025.
